Leeds, UK softwarejanitor said: The black one could likely be an aftermarket replacement, either DiMarzio or Duncan were popular back then because the stock s Fender pickups were usually kind of blah and often not wound very hot. It is also possible it is just a later Fender pickup put in as a replacement if the original bridge pickup failed, but chances are it is an older replacement, as was quite common to do in the s and s.

Seattle, WA I just popped open a guitar I bought that’s supposed to have a Duncan Broadcaster in the bridge and a Duncan Vintage in the neck, but there’s no brass bassplate on the bridge pup, the wires don’t have cloth leads and the coils are wrapped with a ribbon material instead of the usual style wrappings what they are, I don’t know, but it looks like black string, if you know what I’m saying.
Didn’t look too hard at the neck pup but the leads weren’t cloth either. Does anyone know if Duncan is now making these pups without cloth wiring, without the bassplate and with a ribbon wrapping?

Tweet on Twitter Well, we near the end of the long tale of Hamer USA Guitars, a saga that began in the early s and is today a great success story in American guitardom. The Eclipse Model GECS was a new asymmetrical offset double-cutaway design with short horns, the upper somewhat larger and rounded, the lower more pointed, and a rounded lower bout. The body and glued-in neck were all-mahogany with a black-faced three-and-three Hamer headstock and screened logo. The Eclipse sported two Seymour Duncan mini-humbucking pickups with three-way select, one volume and one tone control.
An Eclipse String was also available with the same specs. It had just slightly offset double cutaways with a slightly extended upper horn and a slightly deeper treble cutaway. Otherwise it was similar to the Sunburst. The body was mahogany with a carved, figured koa top with a glued-in mahogany neck. The Mirage was equipped with three Seymour Duncan single-coil-sized humbuckers all perpendicular to the strings — a Hot Rail at the bridge and two split-rail Vintage Rails.
These were controlled by a five-way select and one volume and one tone control. A mini-toggle bypassed the volume control for instant lead mode. Finish options included Cherry Transparent and natural. Otherwise, it was similar to the Mirage. This model came in honey, kool blue, and red transparent.

Click here to scroll down Details: I would estimate that I’ve put about 20 hours of light playing time on this guitar since I’ve owned it. Any significant wear on the instrument was done by the previous owner. It has spent most of its life with me in the case or briefly on a stand in my bedroom office. I’ve never gigged it, though I have taken it to band practice once or twice. My lack of playing it doesn’t mean I don’t love it — shortly after purchasing the Tele, I ended up as the bass player in a cover band and I subsequently didn’t and still don’t have the chance to play much guitar.
This guitar is what I would consider a great sounding, great playing axe. IMHO, good looking too. The neck is straight and the frets standard Fender “medium-jumbo”-type of the era are excellent as well. Depending on your playing preferences, it might take years before you need a fret dressing. For me, its nowhere near needing a dress — there is a lot of fret life left.
The guitar plays well with no weird buzzes, dead spots, fret-outs, etc. I’ve got it set up at a medium-low height with. I have to claim ignorance on Fender neck shapes.

I also saw where Shell Pink was listed as an available color from Fender in color code 56 but not in any of the Strat Plus brochures.

The backs of the pickups do not even have any stickers with the part or patent numbers. Instead they are hand scribed most likely done by Jeff Lace when in high school.
